Today we remember Nursing Sister Minnie Asenath Follette, born in Port Greville, Nova Scotia, on November 11, 1884, daughter of Oscar Adelbert and Lydia Follett of Cumberland County.
.
Minnie enlisted on September 24, 1914, in Quebec City, and served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps aboard the hospital ship Llandovery Castle.
.
On June 27, 1918, the Llandovery Castle was torpedoed, and Minnie, just 33 years old, was lost at sea. She is remembered on the Halifax Memorial in Point Pleasant Park, which bears the names of over 3,000 Canadian men and women buried at sea: “Their graves are unknown, but their memory shall endure.”
.
She is commemorated on Page 409 of the First World War Book of Remembrance.
.
Born in Port Greville. Age 33. Never forgotten.
.
Lest we forget.
