Multiple copper thefts result in damage to infrastructure around Nova Scotia August 7, 2026, Nova Scotia…

Several RCMP detachments in Nova Scotia are investigating recent reports of copper wire theft and the resulting damage to infrastructure associated with these property crimes.

In Colchester County, investigators learned that telecommunications lines in two different areas were cut between July 28 and August 4. Both thefts, which occurred in rural areas around Debert and Masstown, resulted in phone and internet outages in the area after lengths of cables were stolen.

In Cumberland County, officers learned that a significant length of a power line was cut and pulled from the ground outside a building in a rural area near Southampton. The theft occurred on or around August 4.

In Hants County, investigators found that the theft of cable from a vacant building in Hantsport on August 4 resulted in significant damage to the building’s electrical transformer.

Copper wire thefts have the potential to be incredibly dangerous for those involved. Interfering with power lines or electrical infrastructure without the proper training, equipment, and expertise significantly increases personal and public safety risk.

Anyone with information about these thefts or about where stolen metals are sold or received is asked to reach out to their local RCMP detachment or municipal police. To remain anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477, submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or use the P3 Tips app.

Vehicle inspection initiatives help ensure safety on Southwest Nova Scotia roads June 26,2026, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia…

RCMP Southwest Traffic Services, in partnership with the province’s Vehicle Transportation Inspection (VTI) Unit and provincial motor vehicle compliance officers, conducted a series of vehicle inspection initiatives across Southwest Nova Scotia, resulting in dozens of unsafe vehicles being removed from the road.

Between June 9 and 11, officers and VTI inspectors carried out inspections in Yarmouth, Digby and Shelburne counties, targeting vehicles displaying visible signs of potential safety concerns.

A second initiative took place June 16 to 18 in Kings, Annapolis, and Hants counties, with officers focusing on identifying vehicles that may have posed a risk to public safety.

“Ensuring your vehicle is properly maintained is critical. Everyone who travels our roads deserves to arrive safely,” says S/Sgt Wes Blair, acting Officer in Charge, RCMP Traffic Services.

Inspection results in Yarmouth, Digby, and Shelburne counties:

·         37 vehicles inspected

·         23 vehicles failed inspection

·         14 vehicles deemed unsafe and towed

·         21 summary offence tickets issued, including one for breaching a zero-blood alcohol condition

·         1 driver found operating while suspended

·         3 vehicles displaying fraudulent inspection stickers

Inspection results in Kings, Annapolis, and Hants counties:

  • 31 vehicles stopped and/or inspected
  • 15 Motor Vehicle Act charges for operating while suspended, not wearing a seat belt, having no registration and having no insurance
  • 8 vehicles displaying fraudulent inspection stickers
  • 1 charge under the Excise Act for possessing illegal tobacco
  • 10 vehicles towed

Inspectors identified significant safety deficiencies during both initiatives, including:

  • Bald tires with exposed belts
  • Leaking or non-functioning brake systems
  • Improvised or unsafe vehicle repairs, including components secured with vice grips

Road safety is a shared responsibility. While impaired driving, speeding, distraction, and seatbelt non-use remain the leading contributors to serious and fatal collisions, initiatives like these help reduce additional risks by removing unsafe vehicles from our roads.

On June 19, at approximately 8:55 p.m., officers responded to a weapons complaint at a business in the 3200 block of Hwy. 2 in Fall River.  Officers learned a youth had a firearm pointed at them by another youth, who then left the area in a Volkswagen Rabbit.  The youths were known to one another.  No injuries were reported.

With assistance from the Halifax Regional Police Canine Unit, officers attended a residence on Perrin Dr. and arrested the youth in relation to the incident.  A second youth was arrested for failing to comply with conditions of an Undertaking.   Both were transported to the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment.

On June 20, a search warrant was executed at the residence on Perrin Dr., resulting in the seizure of a long-barrelled airsoft gun and a handgun-style airsoft gun.

Both youths were released and are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court at a later date.

The Nova Scotia RCMP reminds youth and parents that BB guns, pellet guns, and airsoft guns can closely resemble real firearms and are often indistinguishable to the public and responding officers.

“When reported, these situations are treated as high-risk, and officers must respond as though the firearm is real,” says Cpl. Mandy Edwards, RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment.  “Carrying or using imitation firearms in public can quickly escalate into a dangerous situation and lead to serious criminal charges.”

The investigation is ongoing.

Martin is associated to the Colchester chapter of the Bacchus Motorcycle Club (MC), a 1% outlaw motorcycle gang (OMG). The 1% term is reserved for the more dominant OMGs in a region and is used by club members to advertise their disregard for the law and society’s norms. Within a 2018 Nova Scotia Supreme Court decision, Bacchus MC was designated a criminal organization under the Criminal Code of Canada, the first such designation for an OMG in Nova Scotia.

Martin was released by the court on conditions. He’s scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on July 20. Trask was also released on conditions and is due in court on July 13.

The investigation is ongoing.

“When we seize drugs, we often find firearms as well,” says S/Sgt. Andrew Clarke, District Commander, Cumberland County District RCMP. “This pattern highlights the close connection between drug activity and weapons, and the risks this combination poses to our communities.”

Police charge three men with drug trafficking; multiple search warrants executed in Pictou County June 11, 2026, Pictou County, Nova Scotia…

The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (PCISCEU) has charged three men with drug trafficking after executing six search warrants around Pictou County.

On May 26, Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, along with teams from a variety of other RCMP units and police agencies, executed five search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation into property crime and drug offences. Locations consisted of two residences in New Glasgow, a business in Plymouth, a storage locker on Westville Rd. and a second storage locker in Abercrombie. As warrants were being executed, investigators learned about another associated storage locker and obtained a sixth search warrant.

As a result of all six search warrant executions, officers seized drugs (cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, various pills) and other items associated to drug trafficking, weapons including a handheld conducted energy weapon (“stun gun”), 40 cartons of unstamped tobacco products, and cash. Officers also recovered several stolen vehicles, including a Kubota skid steer loader, a dirt bike, and several trailers.

Two people were arrested as the search warrant executions were taking place. A third person was arrested at a later date.

Matthew Greencorn, 34, from New Glasgow, Travis Greencorn, 30, from New Glasgow, and Michael MacIntyre, 63, from New Glasgow, are each charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (methamphetamine). They are individually facing other charges related to property crimes, weapons offences, and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. All three men were released by police pending future court appearances.

In order to safely and efficiently conduct this operation, PISCEU as the lead team relied on collaboration with Colchester Community Action Team, Nova Scotia RCMP Police Dog Services, and Street Crime Enforcement Units (SCEU) from Cumberland County, East Hants, Pictou County, and Inverness County. Partnerships with Stellarton Police Department, Westville Police Service and New Glasgow Police were also an integral part of the investigation and search warrant executions.

“During operations like this, we always keep in mind the large- and small-scale impact of our investigations,” says Cpl. Tony MacKinnon, PCISCEU. “Our overall goal is public safety for the community as a whole, especially when we’re seizing drugs, weapons, and other dangerous items. At the individual level, though, we hope that we can make someone’s day better when we return their stolen items.”

Note: PCISCEU includes officers from Pictou County District RCMP, Stellarton Police Department and Westville Police Service.

Lunenburg District RCMP charges Ontario man with fraud June 9, 2026, Hebbville, Nova Scotia…

Lunenburg District RCMP has charged an Ontario man following an investigation into an online investment scam.

On October 6, 2023, Lunenburg District RCMP received a report from an individual in Hebbville who had invested over $65,000 with what they believed to be a real UK-based investment company.

The victim attempted to purchase Government of Canada savings bonds and sent wire transfers to bank accounts they were told were affiliated with the legitimate business.

Through the investigation, officers learned there were multiple victims associated with the scam across Canada. Victims were led to believe they would earn interest on their investments. When interest payments were not received, or when attempts to contact the fraudulent company representatives were unsuccessful, they contacted the legitimate company directly and learned they had been defrauded.

Due to the volume of reports across the country, the complaints were forwarded to the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated Market Enforcement Team (IMET) in Calgary. Following a lengthy investigation, IMET identified a suspect connected to the Hebbville complaint and notified Lunenburg District RCMP.

John L. Marshall, 65, of Palgrave, Ontario, has been charged with Fraud. He’s scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on June 17.

“Fraud investigations are often complex and can span multiple jurisdictions, which makes them challenging,” says Cpl. Dominic Laflamme of the Lunenburg District RCMP. “That’s why it’s so important that victims report these incidents. This case demonstrates how information shared across jurisdictions can help police identify suspects and advance investigations.”

Anyone who suspects they’ve been targeted by a scam is encouraged to contact their local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 (or online at https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm). Update: Major Crime Unit investigation continues as suspicious death in Antigonish County confirmed to be homicide June 4, 2026, Upper Big Tracadie, Nova Scotia…

A suspicious death in Upper Big Tracadie has been confirmed to be a homicide. The Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit (SWN MCU) continues to investigate the death, as well as several fires believed to be linked.

On May 31 at approximately 8:25 p.m., Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a report of a residential fire in the 0-1000-block of Hwy. 16 in Upper Big Tracadie. After the fire was extinguished, officers found a deceased man on the property.

On June 2, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service determined the manner of death to be homicide.

In addition to the residential fire in Upper Big Tracadie, RCMP, fire services, and the Office of the Fire Marshal responded to four other fires between the evening of May 31 and the early morning of June 1. The causes of the following fires have been deemed suspicious and are being investigated for possible links to the homicide:

  • A second residential fire in the 0-1000-block of Hwy. 16, Upper Big Tracadie reported at approximately 9:25 p.m.
  • An apartment complex fire on Tower Rd., Mulgrave reported at approximately 11:20 p.m.
  • A fire at an abandoned residence in the 1000-block of Havre Boucher Rd., Havre Boucher reported at midnight
  • A fire at a lot in another section of Havre Boucher Rd., Havre Boucher

Some residents of the Mulgrave property reported non-life-threatening injuries. They were assessed by EHS and transported to hospital as required.

To support the investigations, officers are seeking video footage (surveillance, dashcam, or doorbell) from Antigonish and/or Guysborough counties between the evening of May 31 and early June 1 showing either a black 2014 Chevrolet Sonic with pink spray paint or a silver 2010 Hyundai Accent with a temporary permit. Officers have located and seized the spray-painted vehicle.

Investigators believe this homicide and the fires are targeted incidents. From the outset, a potential link to the May 21 homicide in West Arm Tracadie was examined. Investigative steps found no evidence connecting the files. They are not related.

The investigation is ongoing and is led by the SWN MCU, with support from other RCMP units including Northeast Nova MCU, Antigonish County District RCMP, Antigonish-Guysborough Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Inverness County District RCMP, Forensic Identification Services, Digital Forensics Services, as well as the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
