The Municipality of Cumberland has hired Allie McCormick as its new deputy chief administrative officer.
She begins her new duties with the municipality on July 13, 2026. She replaces Peter McCracken, who is becoming the new chief administrative officer upon the retirement of present CAO Greg Herrett.
“I am honoured to be part of a team that is so dedicated to serving its residents and communities,” McCormick said. “Throughout my career, I have been passionate about local government and the important role it plays in people’s everyday lives.
“I look forward to working with council, staff, community partners and residents to support the municipality’s goals and help build on the many successes already taking place across Cumberland County.”
A 2011 graduate of Mount Allison University, where she majored in political studies and minored in Canadian Studies, McCormick received her masters in public administration from Dalhousie University in 2015.
McCracken said McCormick’s experience will be beneficial to the Municipality.
“I’m very excited to be working with Allie in her new role. Her knowledge of and commitment to the organization are exceptional and she is well respected by her fellow employees and Council,” McCracken said.
“Allie brings the right combination of experience, skills, forward-thinking and curiosity to the role that will take the position to a new level. We are lucky to have her join us in her new capacity as deputy CAO. I can’t wait to get going.”
She joined the Municipality of Cumberland as a strategic research and community engagement officer in 2015 and also served as its manager of organizational development and innovation.
McCormick was acting CAO in 2021 and acting deputy CAO in 2022 during a period of transition within the municipality while also serving as its director of human resources and community facilities.
In September 2022 she became the director of Recreation and Community Services, where she managed all aspects of the department including the planning, development and evaluation of all recreation programs and community facilities. She oversaw operation and maintenance of all community centres, parks and other recreational facilities within the municipality.
“It’s clear that the Municipality of Cumberland is a place with a strong sense of community, a clear vision for the future and a genuine commitment to its residents. I am thrilled to be serving the organization as deputy chief administrative officer and look forward to building relationships across the municipality,” she said. “There is tremendous momentum underway and I am excited to contribute to the important work being done to support growth, enhance services and create opportunities for communities throughout the municipality.”
Speaking on behalf of council, Mayor Rod Gilroy welcomed McCormick to her new role.
“I am delighted to welcome Allie as our new deputy chief administrative officer. It’s an exciting time for our municipality and I know her experience, leadership and passion for community-building will be tremendous assets to our organization,” the mayor said. “Allie has already made a strong and lasting contribution to the Municipality of Cumberland through her dedication, professionalism and leadership, and we are fortunate to be able to continue benefiting from her experience in this new role. We look forward to her continued success as she helps guide our organization forward in service to the residents of our county.”
