The Three Sisters Centre—the westernmost gateway to the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark—will celebrate its grand re-opening next week. The community is invited to join in the celebration on Thursday, July 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Centre, located within the Eatonville Day-Use Area of Cape Chignecto Provincial Park.
Overlooking dramatic cliffs and coastline, this off-grid interpretive centre was first opened in 2009 and operated for four years. Since assuming stewardship of the Centre shortly following its UNESCO designation in 2020, the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark has worked with government partners, community organizations, donors, volunteers and local businesses to start a multi-phase restoration of the building.
“Nova Scotia is home to some of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the world”, said Tory Rushton, Minister of Natural Resources. “This newly reopened facility will allow even more visitors to experience the Cliffs of Fundy and appreciate their unique beauty. Congratulations and thank you to the staff and everyone involved who helped make today possible.”
“The reopening of the Three Sisters Centre represents far more than the restoration of a building,” said Devin Trefry, Managing Director for the Geopark. “It demonstrates what can be accomplished when communities come together with a shared vision for the exceptional landscape of the Cliffs of Fundy. This centre will inspire visitors to discover the remarkable geology, culture, history and natural beauty of this area – something all who live here are extremely proud of.”
Visitors will discover:
. An accessible, welcoming visitor information centre
. Stories celebrating the natural and cultural heritage of Mi’kma’ki
. Local artisan products, gifts and light refreshments featuring local flavours in the Little Sister Gift Shop and Café
. Access to spectacular accessible trails, look-offs and the famous Three Sisters sea stacks.
The reopening marks another important milestone for the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark, whose mission is to protect internationally significant geological heritage while creating meaningful educational experiences and supporting sustainable economic development opportunities throughout the region.
Official remarks will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a free BBQ, with donations welcome. Speakers include:
