A 45-year-old man from Pointe-du-Chêne, N.B., died following a two-vehicle collision in Shediac, N.B.

A member of Shediac RCMP saw a truck speeding on Ohio Drive at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday, said a news release. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, which allegedly accelerated and turned onto Route 133 east bound. The officer stopped the pursuit.

Shediac RCMP received a two-vehicle collision report on Route 133 at approximately 9:56 p.m., said a news release.

One of the vehicles was the same truck RCMP saw speeding on Ohio Drive, said police.

The driver of the truck is believed to have crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic and collided with a car.

The 45-year-old driver and sole occupant of the car died on the scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 20-year-old man and his four passengers, were all transported to hospital with injuries.

Shediac Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, the coroner’s office and an RCMP traffic reconstructionist attended the scene.

The driver of the truck was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and flight from police. He was released pending a future court appearance.

New Brunswick RCMP contacted the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) to review the information related to the incident and determine if it meets their investigation mandate because the Shediac RCMP tried to stop the truck before the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
