.
Albert Einstein never set foot in Pugwash, Nova Scotia.
But his words helped bring some of the world’s greatest minds to our little village, united by a question that could determine humanity’s future.
.
In 1957, at the height of the Cold War, 22 scientists gathered at Thinkers Lodge. Inspired by the Russell–Einstein Manifesto, they came from opposing sides of a divided world, yet found the courage to sit together, listen and imagine a different future.
.
Their conversations helped shape a movement that would eventually receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
We’ve been here before, as humans. Times of uncertainty, division, fear and profound change.
And right here in Pugwash, we have a remarkable reminder of what becomes possible when people gather with open hearts and courageous minds.
.
What if we chose to harness some of that same spirit today?
On November 1st, I invite you to a gathering that honours those who came before us while asking an equally important question:
.
What does it mean to be a good ancestor?
We’ll create an ancestor table with photographs, acorns, pine cones, fallen leaves or simple reminders of those who have inspired us. Our ancestors needn’t be connected by blood. They may be the thinkers, teachers and courageous souls who shaped our lives.
.
Through facilitated conversation, we’ll explore stewardship, monastic life, the commons, belonging and the legacy we hope to leave behind.
.
No particular faith or tradition is required. Just curiosity, an open heart and a willingness to imagine something different.
.

.
Perhaps what our world needs right now is fewer answers shouted across the room and more meaningful conversations shared around a table.
.
After all, the conversations we have today become the world someone else inherits.
I’d love to have you at the table. Message me to reserve your seat.
